Stronghold for puppies and kittens

Each dose (pipette) delivers:  
Active substance:  
- Stronghold 15 mg for cats and dogs – 6% w/v solution. Selamectin – 15 mg  
- Stronghold 45 mg for cats – 6% w/v solution. Selamectin – 45 mg  
- Stronghold 60 mg for cats – 6% w/v solution. Selamectin – 60 mg  

Excipients:  
- Butylated hydroxytoluene – 0.08%  
- Dipropylene glycol methyl ether  
- Isopropyl alcohol

Treatment and prevention of flea infestations caused by Ctenocephalides spp. for one month following a single administration. This indication is due to the adulticidal, larvicidal, and ovicidal properties of the product. The product exhibits ovicidal action for 3 weeks after administration.  

By reducing the flea population, monthly treatment of pregnant and lactating animals helps prevent flea infestations in puppies up to seven weeks of age. The product can be used as part of a treatment strategy against flea allergy dermatitis and, due to its ovicidal and larvicidal action, may assist in controlling flea infestations in the surrounding environment in areas accessible to the animal.  

Prevention of heartworm disease (Dirofilaria immitis) through monthly administrations. Stronghold can be safely administered to animals infested with adult heartworms; however, in accordance with good veterinary practice, all animals aged 6 months or older living in endemic areas should be tested for the presence of adult heartworms before initiating treatment with Stronghold. Periodic testing of dogs for infestation is also recommended as part of a comprehensive prevention strategy.  

This product is not effective against adult forms of D. immitis.  

Additional indications:  
Treatment of ear mites (Otodectes cynotis):  

- Cats:  
- Treatment of biting lice infestations (Felicola subrostratus).  
- Treatment of adult roundworms (Toxocara cati).  
- Treatment of adult intestinal hookworms (Ancylostoma tubaeforme).  

- Dogs:  
- Treatment of biting lice infestations (Trichodectes canis).  
- Treatment of sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei).  
- Treatment of adult intestinal roundworms (Toxocara canis).

Stronghold is administered through a single application using a dosing unit, ensuring a minimum of 6 mg/kg of selamectin. In cases of concurrent parasitic infestations or infections requiring treatment with this product, a single administration of the recommended dose is sufficient.  

The treatment duration varies depending on the targeted parasite, as outlined in the specific administration table:  

- Cats and dogs:  
- Treatment of heartworms: monthly administration.  
- Treatment of ear mites and sarcoptic mange: a single application, repeated after 30 days if necessary.  
- Treatment of lice infestations: a single application.  
- Treatment of intestinal worms (roundworms and hookworms): a single application.  
- Prevention of flea reinfestation: monthly administration.  

Note: Administration should be carried out according to the veterinarian’s instructions and the corresponding weight table for each species and dose.

Treatment and prevention of flea infestations (cats and dogs):  
The administration of the veterinary medicinal product helps eliminate adult fleas from the animal, prevents the formation of viable eggs, and destroys larvae present in the environment. This effect halts flea reproduction and interrupts their life cycle, aiding in the control of flea infestations in areas accessible to the animal.  

Instructions for prevention: 
- The product must be administered monthly throughout the active flea season.  
- It is recommended to start treatment one month before the appearance of fleas.  
- Monthly treatment of pregnant and lactating animals helps prevent flea infestations in puppies up to 7 weeks of age.  
- For the control of flea allergy dermatitis, administration at monthly intervals is recommended.  

This treatment is effective for the prevention and control of flea infestations and may contribute to improving the overall health of affected animals.  

Prevention of heartworm disease (cats and dogs):  
- The product is administered year-round or at least one month before the first exposure to mosquitoes.  
- Administration continues monthly until the end of the mosquito season.  
- The final dose should be administered one month before the last exposure to mosquitoes.  
- If a dose is missed, administer immediately and resume monthly administrations to prevent the development of adult heartworms.  
- When replacing another heartworm prevention product, the first dose of the new product should be administered one month after the last dose of the previous product.  

Treatment of roundworm infestations (cats and dogs): 
- A single dose of the veterinary medicinal product is administered.  

Treatment of biting lice (cats and dogs): 
- A single dose of the veterinary medicinal product is administered.  

Treatment of ear mites:  
- Cats: A single dose of the veterinary medicinal product is administered.  
- Dogs: A single dose of the veterinary medicinal product is administered. Debris should be gently removed from the external ear canal with each treatment. A follow-up veterinary examination is recommended after 30 days, as some animals may require a second treatment.  

Treatment of hookworm infestations (cats):  
- A single dose of the veterinary medicinal product is administered.  
- For complete elimination of mange, a single dose of the veterinary medicinal product is administered monthly for 2 consecutive months.  

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PROPER ADMINISTRATION 
Skin application:  
- Apply to the skin at the base of the neck, in front of the shoulder blades.  

Pipette preparation:  
- Remove the Stronghold pipette from its protective sleeve.  
- Holding the pipette upright, press firmly on the cap to puncture the seal at the tip, then remove the cap.  

Product application:  
- Part the animal’s fur at the base of the neck, in front of the space between the shoulder blades, to expose a small area of skin.  
- Place the pipette tip directly onto the exposed skin.  
- Squeeze the pipette firmly to release the entire contents in one spot.  
- Avoid contact of the product with fingers.  

Application conditions:  
- Do not apply the product if the animal’s coat is wet.  
- Shampooing or bathing the animal 2 or more hours after treatment will not affect the product’s efficacy.

- Do not use in animals under 6 weeks of age.  
- Do not administer to cats suffering from other concurrent diseases, weakened, or with a substandard weight for their age.

Zero days.

- Pipettes with a pink cap contain 0.25 ml of a 6% w/v solution and deliver 15 mg of selamectin.  
- Pipettes with a blue cap contain 0.75 ml of a 6% w/v solution and deliver 45 mg of selamectin.  
- Pipettes with a gray cap contain 1.0 ml of a 6% w/v solution and deliver 60 mg of selamectin.  
The product is placed in a translucent polypropylene tube-type dosing unit, within a protective aluminum and PVC blister. Pipettes are packaged in units of 15 (only pipettes with 15 mg of selamectin) or in larger packs.
