Dosage and method of administration

Oral administration in drinking water.

Pigs
The recommended dose is:
12.5 mg doxycycline hyclate (25 mg medicine) per kg body weight per day, for 4 consecutive days.
If no clinical improvement is observed within this period, the diagnosis should be revised, and the treatment adjusted. In case of severe infections, the treatment period may be extended up to a maximum of 8 consecutive days, according to the veterinarian’s recommendation.

Chickens
The recommended dose is:
10 mg doxycycline hyclate (20 mg medicine) per kg body weight per day, for 3-4 consecutive days in infections caused by *P. multocida* and 20 mg doxycycline hyclate (40 mg medicine) per kg body weight per day, for 3-4 consecutive days in infections caused by *O. rhinotracheale*.

Correct Administration Recommendations:

The amount of medication used daily can be calculated accurately based on the dosage used and the number and weight of the animals being treated.

To calculate the concentration of the medicine in the drinking water, the following formula can be used:

(mg medicine / kg body weight) × average body weight × number of animals = average daily water consumption per animal (liters) × (mg medicine / liter drinking water)

This formula will help establish the exact amount of medicine to be added to the drinking water, ensuring the animals receive the correct dose.

For accurate dosing:

- The body weight must be determined as precisely as possible.
- Water consumption of medicated water depends on the clinical condition of pigs and chickens. For correct dosing, the doxycycline concentration should be adjusted accordingly.

Instructions for Use:

- If the entire contents of the packaging are not used, it is recommended to use properly calibrated weighing equipment.
- The daily amount of medication should be added to the drinking water so that the entire medication is consumed within 24 hours. The medicated water should be refreshed or replaced every 24 hours.

Method for preparing the solution:

- If necessary, a concentrated preliminary solution can be prepared using approximately 100 g of the medicine per liter of drinking water, followed by dilution to therapeutic concentrations.
- Alternatively, the concentrated solution can be administered through a proportioner dosing device with water.

Additional Precautions:

- The solubility of the medicine is influenced by pH. The product may precipitate if mixed in strongly alkaline water.
- In areas with hard and alkaline drinking water (hardness over 10.2°d and pH greater than 8.1), it is recommended to use at a minimum concentration of 200 mg powder per liter of water.

Monitoring and Care:

- During treatment, animals should have access exclusively to medicated water.
- Water consumption should be monitored frequently.
- After completing the treatment, the water supply system should be cleaned thoroughly to avoid the intake of sub-therapeutic amounts of the active substance.

Contraindications It should not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients.
It should not be used in animals with liver insufficiency.
It should not be used in animals with kidney disorders.
