Improvac

Species Piglets (from 8 weeks of age), gilts (from 14 weeks of age).
Composition

Active substance:
Gonadotropin-Releasing Factor Analog (FEGn) Conjugate Protein (a synthetic peptide analog of FEGn conjugated to diphtheria toxins).

Adjuvant:
diethylam inoethyl (DEAE)-Dextran, aqueous adjuvant, non-mineral, with an oily appearance.
Excipient: chlorocresol.

Indications

Piglets
Induction of antibody production against Gonadotropin Releasing Factor (FEGn) to cause temporary immunological suppression of testicular function.
To be used as an alternative to physical castration to reduce the stench caused by the main stench component, androstenone, in all post-pubescent male pigs. Another important component that contributes to the smell of wine, scatol, can be reduced as an indirect effect. Aggressive and sexual behavior (mounta) are also diminished.
Installation of immunity (induction of anti-FEGn antibodies) may occur within a week after the second vaccination. Reduction in androstenone and skatole levels was demonstrated from 4 weeks after the second vaccination. This reflects both the time required to eliminate the specific odor components present at the time of vaccination and the variability of individual animal response. The decrease in aggressive and sexual behavior (mounting) occurs 1-2 weeks after the second injection.

Gilts
Induction of antibody production against Gonadotropin-Releasing Factor (FEGn) for temporary immunological suppression of ovarian function, reduction of sexual behavior and prevention
unwanted pregnancies in sows for slaughter. Installation of immunity (induction of anti-FEGn antibodies) occurs within a week after revaccination, reduction of sexual behavior occurs after 1-2 weeks after revaccination. Ovarian suppression has been shown to persist for at least 9 weeks after revaccination.

Dosage and method of administration

2ml, administration by subcutaneous injection (the injection is done under the skin).

All gilts from the age of 8 weeks must be injected with two doses of 2 ml at least 4 weeks apart, the second dose normally being administered at least 4-6 weeks before slaughter. If slaughter is planned later than 10 weeks from the planned date, there is a minimal risk of the specific worm odor and then a third dose is injected 4-6 weeks before slaughter. In case of suspicion of a wrong administration of the dose, the animals will be re-vaccinated immediately.

Sows from the age of 14 weeks are vaccinated with two doses of 2 ml each 4 weeks apart. Immunity is maintained for at least 9 weeks after the second vaccination. At the expiration of the given term in most females the function returns to normal.

Subcutaneous administration is carried out in the neck area, immediately after the ear using a syringe with a safety device with a short needle that penetrates 12-15mm. To avoid intramuscular deposits and injury, it is recommended to use a shorter needle to penetrate 5mm to 9mm in smaller pigs and younger than 16 weeks. Note that when using a safety vaccinator part of the needle will be covered by the needle guard and will not penetrate the pig. Depending on the type of protection of the vaccinator, pressure may be applied to the skin and the needle will be pushed a few millimeters deeper into the tissue. These circumstances must be considered when choosing the appropriate needle length. Penetration of the skin must be done perpendicularly. Avoid inducing contamination. Avoid injecting pigs when they are wet and dirty.
