Composition
  • Antimedin as an active substance contains atipamezole hydrochloride – 5 mg / ml and excipients: sodium chloride, benzyl alcohol and water for injection.
Indications
  • Antimedin is used to eliminate the sedative and analgesic effects of medetomidine in dogs and cats, as well as if necessary, eliminate the side effects of medetomidine on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Antimedin is used 15-60 minutes after alpha2-agonists. Usually, the sedative effect of medetomidine or dexamedetomidine is removed within 5-10 minutes.
Dosage and method of administration
  • Antimedin is administered to animals intramuscularly once, in a dose (ml / animal):
    – dogs – in a dose equal to the dose previously administered medetomidine / dexmedetomidine;
    – for cats – in a dose equal to 1/2 of the dose previously administered by medetomidine / dexmedetomidine;
    Antimedin, as a rule, is used once. If necessary, re-use the drug is administered after 10 – 15 minutes in the same dose.
  • After intramuscular administration, the drug is rapidly absorbed, the maximum concentration of atipamezole in the blood is reached after 10 – 15 minutes, its half-life is 1 – 3 hours. In the body, atipamezole undergoes oxidation in the liver, a small part is metabolized in the kidneys; metabolites are excreted mainly in the urine.
    Antimedin in terms of its effect on the body belongs to low-hazard substances, it is well tolerated by animals in recommended doses, does not have embryotoxic, teratogenic and hepatotoxic properties.
Contraindications
  • Contraindication to the use of Antimedin is an increased individual sensitivity of the animal to the components of the drug, heart failure, impaired liver or kidney function. Antimedin should not be used to eliminate the sedative effects of drugs of other pharmacological groups.
Warning
  • Antimedin is not intended for use by productive animals.
  • Mixing the drug Antimedin in the same syringe with other medicines is not allowed. The use of antagonists of α2-adrenergic receptors together with anticholinergics or drugs with a positive chronotropic effect can cause excessive tachycardia.
Release form
  • The drug is produced in 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 ml in dark glass bottles, sealed with rubber stoppers with aluminum caps. Each bottle is packaged in a cardboard box complete with instructions for use.
Storage conditions Store the drug in the sealed packaging of the manufacturer, separately from food and feed, in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight, at a temperature of from 5 ° C to 25 ° C.
